History in action Spinalonga Island

The wonderful INCO chairwoman, Barbara, arranges for us to have free passage to Spinalonga Island, one of Crete’s most notorious tourist attractions.

Barbara kindly accompanied us and was both tour guide and additional adult for the trip’s duration.

Spinalonga has a long and fascinating history including but not limited to:

– being a smuggler haven and pirate port

– being a fortified outpost protecting the bay

– being a lepar colony

– being colonized by centuries and centuries of invaders and so on

The girls of course latched onto the pirate aspect of the history and we had three wonderful history steeped hours of learning as we boated, scrambled up rocks, read museum notices and explores the island.

Amazing memories made and learning had. Thank you Barbara and INCO
