Our wonderful Zia Carol sent us a link from the National Gallery which had information about how to set up a still life.
We watched the video after lunch and looked at three paintings that had been produced over the centuries and featured various household items.
Freya straight away started sketching fruits from memory, so, I asked them if they wanted to have a go at a real still life! They did!
We collected a box and some fruit and chose some materials to be the base for the fruit. They were very keen to have a go….

We talked about perspective, shading, squinting our eyea to see light and dark and where in the page to place the objects.
Freya threw herself into it with gusto.
She sketched out her design then added color and shading showing great maturity and attention to detail.

Flossy turned her fruit into cartoon characters 🙂
Both the finished products were amazing, Freya was very proud, as were we!
