So fantastic to see her confident smile and self assured attitude as she tackled column addition ‘the way we were taught.’
We reviewed what we had learn so far with partitioning and expanded column method before I demonstrated standard written method with ‘carrying’.
I decided to place the ‘carried’ ten at the bottom of the tens column as this lost closely represented what we had done with the expanded method.
She was over the moon! So excited to be able to do the calculations competently and quickly, even crossing the tens boundary with no issue.
She is a completely different little mathematician to the one we had at the beginning of the year. Next we are on to real life application!
