While we were searching for materials for our stick men we found a selection of feathers.
Freya was classifying the feathers using her knowledge from our ‘Birds’ topic and our ‘Birds of Prey’ topic.
She predicted that one of the feathers was a flight feather and wanted to test this theory by dropping it and watching how it fell through the air compared to a down feather.
First attempt slow motion
It was fascinating, the flight feather picked up the air currents as it fell and twirled and danced.
Second attempt slow-motion
The down feather softly fell to Earth without catching the air currents.
Down feather in slow-motion
A great child-initiated experiment which, through slow-mo video proved her hypothesis. Well done Freya.
